Landguard is a UK-based specialist business operating in the defence sector, with strong technical capability and clear potential to scale in response to evolving customer demand. Heligan invested in Landguard because of its solid growth foundations, strategic relevance and the strength of the capability it was developing.

Like many businesses serving defence and government customers, Landguard faced familiar challenges. The biggest was procurement uncertainty, particularly at a time when buying signals from MOD were less clear. As that picture improved, so did the opportunity. With stronger visibility over defence priorities and growing alignment between customer need and Landguard’s technical direction, the business was well placed to accelerate growth and build strategic value.

Heligan’s investment in Landguard combined capital with practical, sector-led support designed to help the business grow and achieve the right exit outcome. Early in the investment, Heligan helped shape Landguard’s sales strategy, challenging where to focus by customer, geography and market opportunity. Through its Strategic Insights capability and wider Five Eyes network, Heligan also opened doors, solved problems and connected the business with people and organisations that could support growth.

As Landguard matured, Heligan worked closely with management on exit planning, identifying likely acquirers, starting conversations early and ensuring the process aligned with management’s goals. For founders in defence technology and specialist engineering markets, it reflects Heligan’s hands-on, well-connected approach.
