From ambition to outcome

A sale involves more than taking a business to market. Heligan’s Security Technology Transaction Map connects all five stages, showing how preparation, positioning and informed advice can help build, protect and realise value.

Understand your ambition. Establish your starting position.

Clarify what a successful outcome would mean for you and your fellow shareholders. Assess current value, commercial strengths, risks and readiness against that objective.

02 (1).svg

Act on what could influence value.

Develop a prioritised plan to strengthen the areas most likely to affect resilience, buyer confidence and growth. Sector expertise helps challenge the plan and focus attention where it can make a meaningful difference.

03 (1).svg

Prepare for scrutiny. Make the opportunity clear.

Address potential concerns, substantiate the investment story and identify buyers most likely to recognise the business’s strategic value. Prepare a considered route to market.

Manage the process. Assess the full offer.

Engage selected buyers, manage negotiations and coordinate due diligence through to completion. Evaluate price alongside certainty, timing, terms and the wider outcome you want to achieve.

Plan for what comes next.

Consider the transition, any retained interests and your future ambitions. Bring in relevant expertise to support the business and the longer-term management of realised wealth.

What could influence your sale outcome?

A buyer’s assessment will reflect both the risks within your business and the opportunities it offers. Preparing early helps you address potential concerns and build a stronger case for its value.

Protect the value you have built

Dependable earnings, clear ownership of technology and IP, reduced dependencies and regulatory readiness can strengthen buyer confidence. Examining these areas early creates time to resolve issues before they affect negotiations.

Help buyers recognise the opportunity

Mission-critical capability, defensible expertise and credible growth prospects can make your business strategically important to particular buyers. Demonstrating those strengths and engaging the right parties helps them understand what the business could achieve under their ownership.
