I am Ramesh Jassal. I'm the Healthcare Partner in the Corporate Finance team at the Heligan Group. It's refreshing to join Heligan because you're sort of giving carte blanche to really push healthcare, and don't be afraid to say what you really think. The other great thing about Heligan is the fact that they're very sector focused. We cover healthcare in three parts, Pharma Life Sciences, Medical Equipment and Devices and Health and Social Care. There is a fourth sector, which sort of is the sandwich pin that goes through all three, which is basically healthcare IT, because IT can sit in any of those three buckets.

So what we do is we define the subsectors and when we talk to clients, we need to understand their market. We need to understand what deals are happening in that market. We need to be talking the same language. We need to understand who the buyers are, who the investors are before we even meet the client, because that's important. And the client buys into the fact that you know the sector and I think that's very powerful.

Over the last couple of months, we've seen a rebound in mergers and acquisitions. We see some positive activity in the market, primarily driven by the macroeconomics of the globe. People are a bit more excited about doing transactions again. You're also seeing a geopolitical stability in the market. And then you'll also see, probably, a move towards more cross-border M&A happening with the US and Europe... because the US has always been weak in terms of Wellness, Prevention and Outcomes. And so what you will see is a lot of that IP sits in Europe. And I think a lot of that transition of M&A happening in Europe will increase, and mostly it will be outrun from the US coming into Europe to access that knowhow and IP around outcomes.

Healthcare's always been very anti-cyclical, so therefore there's always been good activity in the Healthcare market. And I think you'll see more Wellness, Prevention and Outcomes orientated thinking, more deregulation, and more scrutiny of what's coming out of the FDA and how they analyze stuff. And to me that's exciting, because it means preventative care. Things like remedies, vitamins and mineral supplements, natural products, patentable products that are not patentable now because they've passed their expiry date, which means that they can be reprofiled into other indications. So I think that's all positive.

And I think a lot of the knowhow and intellectual property around outcomes, wellness and prevention is all captured in Europe. And I think the US will have to, because they're weak on that, will have to acquire in Europe.

Healthcare Trends & Considerations

M&A activity is rebounding as inflation and interest rates ease, lowering capital costs and boosting confidence. Healthcare remains strong, with a growing focus on prevention and outcomes. Expect more US-to-Europe M&A as American firms seek European expertise in wellness and IP. This shift signals rising interest in preventative care, natural products, and re-purposing existing therapies for new indications.
